--Jmarshall 22:33, 2 May 2006 (CEST) : Thanks for the comments Donno and Spiff - I have incorporated them.
--Jmarshall 22:33, 2 May 2006 (CEST) : What about a separate folder for logs, with logs stored by date - overkill I think?
defaultusername, defaultpassword should be kept im sure advance users who have multiply smb boxes with common passwords for xbmc would use this. haltonfatalerrors, pretty sure this is useless so no need for it. loglevels should probley made into 3 - default its on at moment, debug (0), and the samba one. (Well debug can be set via the combo on startup, but samba would would be diff.
If by thumbnails, shortcuts, albums, recordings, screenshots, and log path you mean the folder/location then not need if you can change the directory for the whole userdata folder. No reason why users would want every folder spread out over harddrive.
I agree with startwindow should be removed no point of having it in two locations
Video/Music/Picture extentions should not be changeable in advance, there should be no point of letting people rename all there .avi to .l37 and adding it to the extentions. Really the extentions that are there by default should be the only ones that should work.
Thats all for now
my views
home agreed loglevel advanced logpath remove. always log in $HOME or tdata. this is only needed due to home stuff unless i missed something. haltonfatalerrors remove showfreemem remove
samba
workgroup gone smbip gone smbsharename gone defaultusername gone defaultpassword gone winsserver gone
all samba handling should be done through the add source dialog. no default pwds or anything. that's what u use locations for. if we really want to support default user and pwds (it doesn't make sense imo), this is how i see it implemented: first time a user add a new source with pwd/user set - ask to set as default - ask to stop bugging if no - save in the bookmarks file, not advanced.
debuglevel advanced clienttimeout advanced cddbipaddress remove. can't see why anybody would use this. autodetectfg advanced (needed for OLD bioses) usefdrive advanced usegdrive advanced usepcdvdrom advanced. it's extremely broken, so we should do our best to try to hide it from our users ;) detectasiso remove and set to true dashboard GUI - fileselector dvdplayer GUI - fileselector subtitles advanced cachepath advanced trainerpath advanced or GUI (ask) playlists advanced or GUI (ask) languagecodes advanced startwindow remove - it's in the GUI pictureextensions advanced. but just additionals. musicextensions advanced. but just additionals. videoextensions advanced. but just additionals. rss feeds well, sure it would be nice to have in the gui, but icky to add urls... if so, separate file. videostacking advanced pathsubstition advanced thumbnails advanced shortcuts advanced albums rename to database recordings advanced or gui (ask user on first recording) screenshots advanced or gui (ask user on first screenshot) delays advanced - controller deadzone needs to be 0.2 or so displayremotecodes advanced filetypeicons advanced - imo this should be up to the skin anyway.
