Universal Remote Control with XBMC

You can fully control XBMC with a Universal Infrared Remote Control (IR-remote), however you still need the Microsoft Xbox IR-receiver-dongle that you get with the Xbox DVD-Remote Kit. The XBox DVD remote uses the RCA VCR/DVD player codes from the RC5 protocol, so simply follow the instructions that came with your Universal Remote Control on how to set it to "RCA" or "RC5".

You can also redefine all keys of the remote as you like, by editing the keymapping which is defined in the "XBMC\UserData\Keymap.xml" file on your Xbox, see here for detailed intructions on how to edit Keymap.xml. (To figure out what code your remote control sends to the xbox when you press a button, enable the <displayremotecodes> setting.)
