1 Something for the future
The ubuntu minimal install + Xbmc in standalone is also an option thought these instruction and how tos need updating.
this menu goes here as a representation of that work in progress just from my reference on how to add it up later if required.
2 Standalone (linux)
Kodibuntu is a combination Kodi/operating system for use on PCs that are mainly just running Kodi. It is an alternative to installing Windows or a larger (and sometimes more complicated) Linux-based OS.
OpenELEC (short for "Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center") is a free and open source, small and very fast booting, embedded operating system. OpenELEC is a complete media center software suite that comes with a pre-configured version of Kodi and third-party add-ons with retro video game console emulators and PVR plugins.
| Run or install XBMC from USB drive
Kodi for Linux is primarily developed for Ubuntu Linux. Third-party packages for most other Linux distributions are however available, and it is also possible to compile Kodi media center software application from scratch for nearly any Linux distribution. Linux supports full hardware decoding with most graphics cards. Linux is generall the best way to get a fast, free, and "appliance" feel for an Kodi powered HTPC.
