General page title guidelines

See also Template:Wikipedia for more general ideas
  • Use lower case, except for proper names: related guidelines: Template:Wikipedia, Template:Wikipedia
  • Avoid definite and indefinite articles: Do not place definite or indefinite articles (the, a and an) at the beginning of titles unless they are part of a proper name (e.g. The Old Man and the Sea).

Page types

  • How-to's: a "how to" page is generally a step-by-step set of instructions for a specific task. These pages should be titled "How-to:Page title" such as "How-to:Install XBMC on a toaster oven".
  • General topic: A general topic, such as Network File System, should be named after the topic at hand. These general topic pages can also include "how-to" instructions, but since they also cover additional general information should not be titled as a "How-to:".
  • Data dumps: Data dumps include pages that are meant to just be wiki copies of XML files like keymaps, configuration files, etc.
