General

  • Flatten Directory Hierarchy
    • What this does is collapses possibly multiple layers in a bookmark into one level- this means you don't have to navigate through several folders to get to the app/game/emulator that you want.
    • If you have every game in its own folder and all those folders are in F:\Games, and your bookmark path is F:\Games, flattening the heriachy will show all the game icons on selecting the “Games” bookmark. If flatten Heriachy is disabled then you will see all the all the game folders, but will have to enter a games folder to access the game icon- the choice is yours.
  • Show only Default.xbe
    • All games that come out on the xbox that boot from disc are always have a file called default.xbe because that is the executable file that any bios looks for when booting from the dvd-rom drive (unless manually edited not to do so). Therefore when you rip games to your hd this the file that you select to launch a game. You will notice also that most apps and emulators usually have a default.xbe. XBMC can either scan given paths for xbe files with any name or it can limit its scan to files labelled default.xbe. I would recommend you enable this as there are several games that have additional xbe files- usually Xbox Live related and if they show up in your games section and you accidently select it- it could end up trying to connect you to xbox live or do a dash update which could result in you loosing any modded files you had on your C:\ drive. The one consequence of enabling scan default.xbe's is that all the apps/games/emulators you want to be autodetected have to be labelled “default.xbe”. Therefore evoxdash.xbe, avalaunch.xbe etc. will not get picked up automatically.
  • Use Directory Names for Description
    • Sometimes certain homebrew apps and even some games have a strange names embedded in the default.xbe file, names that may not make any sense. XBMC can then use the App/Game? folder name instead of the name embedded in the xbe. It is easier to rename the folder either in xbmc or via ftp than it is to edit the name embedded in the .xbe file. If you do not enable this function the name embedded in the xbe will be used. If there is no name embedded in the xbe file (highly unlikely) then folder name will be used.
  • Do not use Shortcuts or Scan
    • This feature essentially disables the shortcut method of viewing apps/games/emulators.
  • Cache Program Thumbnails
  • Enable Mode Switching
    • Enables you to switch the video mode that XBMC launches programs in.
