Installing

OUYA uses XBMC for Android. We currently recommend this test build, based on Gotham Alpha 1 and libstagefright, for OUYA users. It has hardware video decoding and appears to be mostly stable:

There are newer builds of the libstagefright testing branch, but they might have additional issues because they are based on later alpha versions of XBMC, due to the unstable nature of development builds. Using the Alpha 1-based version will be more stable due to less experimental code being involved, but also might not have all of the latest libstagefright changes and fixes. More information on libstagefright can be found here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=152005

Known issues

  • There's some keymap issues. Editor note: If someone would like to provide some details on this, either here or in a link to a forum post, etc, that would be very helpful.
  • Wifi on the OUYA might not be enough for some HD streams. In this case, using wired ethernet is recommended.
  • There seems to be some HDMI handshaking issues that sometimes prevent audio-passthrough from working between an OUYA and an audio receiver. A temp work around might be to unplug/replug in HDMI cables or switch video inputs to re-establish the HDMI connection.
  • OUYA's underlaying OS, Android, is limited to video output at 60Hz. Those with media that plays back at 50Hz might see occasional stutter.

Random notes

Feel free to place various notes, tips, and links here. As this section of the wiki gets more organized, those notes will be properly sorted. Consider this like a dumping ground for when you're not sure where to put something.

  • If the on-screen keyboard does not respond to D-Pad input, enable this [System Settings > System > Input Devices > Remote control sends keyboard presses].
