Hi10P

Some notes about Hi10P, an h.264 profile that is popular for many anime release groups. This will eventually have some more hardware recommendations as well. While it's totally possible to avoid Hi10P files, even for current shows, if you're putting together your HPTC for the first time then you might as well prepare for it.

Hi10P (also called "10-bit") is a profile of the h.264 video codec. It has recently (last couple of years) become popular in the anime scene for video encodes. XBMC supports Hi10P playback as of v12 "Frodo".

Hardware requirements

Hi10P won't work on ARM or even Intel ATOM processors (maybe one day, but none of the current ones in 2013 can do it). Hi10P can't be hardware decoded (which is to say, no one makes hardware decoders for them and no company plans to add Hi10P hardware decoding in the foreseeable future), which is what Raspberry-Pi, Android, ATOM processors, and some AMD APU systems require for smooth playback of demanding video (Hi10P is very demanding). Thus, Hi10P requires CPU/software decoding.

A safe bet would be at least a Core 2 Duo/Celeron G530 processor (or equivalent AMD) or higher.

RSS feeds

Use the RSS ticker to see the latest releases using this RSS feed maintained by XBMC user magao - or load it into a torrent client to add downloads directly from the feed. If a show has an incorrectly-formatted title (e.g. the wrong season) listed in the RSS feed, please e-mail rss.atom.feed (at) gmail (dot) com.

This feed combines the following feeds from NyaaTorrents (translated anime with remakes filtered out) and AnimeSuki.

Items will usually appear in the combined feed within an hour of being added to the base NyaaTorrents or AnimeSuki feed.

Title reformatting

The titles from NyaaTorrents and AnimeSuki are reformatted with season numbers, volume numbers (for Blu-Ray/DVD releases), consistent resolution formats (480p/720p/1080p) and encoding methods (8bit/10bit). The aim is to make filtering torrents in torrent clients easier - for example, being able to use standard season + episode filtering.

There are many cases where the season cannot be easily determined since the second and later seasons of an anime are often indicated by changing the name. To correctly identify these I have to put in an override e.g. "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S" is season 2. I try to find all of these each season but I'm likely to miss some. Also occasionally it will misidentify a number in the title as an episode number and prepend 1x to it - not much I can do about that except keep adding exceptions as I find them.

If you come across a title that is incorrectly formatted please let me know at the email address above. My priority is ensuring that TV series are correctly formatted so that I can just let my torrent client add them - I tend to add OVAs and Blu-Ray/DVD rips manually so I'm less concerned about getting them right.
