XBMC has the ability to access music from a variety of sources, both local and on a network. Outlined below are the various possible sources for audio content that are supported. You can find a full list of supported audio formats here.

CD Audio Playback

XBMC can play audio CDs from the Xbox´s DVD drive.

XBOX Local HDD

You can play files directly from your XBOX hard drive via bookmarks. Be aware that the XBOX filesystem has limitations of filename length and directory size.

Configuring PC Shares

XBMC is able to play files directly off your remote computer hard drive without copying or special software. XBMC supports various file sharing techniques.

Sharing your iTunes Library

iTunes has its very own library sharing protocol, DAAP. It allows you to play audio files stored in your PC or MAC iTunes library. DAAP does have some limitations, including crossfading due to protocol structure.

Playing your MS Soundtracks

The Microsoft XBOX Dashboard supports the ripping of audio to its own cd manager. XBMC allows you to play these files from the XBOX hard drive. Some limitations exist with these files including crossfading due to WMA filetype.

Shoutcast Top 500

Shoutcast.com maintains a list of the Top 500 stations on their listings. Through XBMC you can select and listen to any of these stations over your broadband internet connection. Free online radio at your fingertips.

Ripping CDs

XBMC has a built in audio CD ripper. This ripper supports ripping to wav, mp3 and OGG vorbis formats and attempts to name your tracks using data sourced from CDDB.com.
