XBMC has the ability to access music from a variety of sources both Llcal and network. Outlined below are the various possible sources for audio content that are supported.
Sharing your iTunes Library
iTunes has its very own library sharing protocol. Daap, is it is called, allows the playing of the audio files stored in your iTunes library on your PC or MAC. Daap does have some limitations, including crossfading due to protocol structure.
Playing your MS Soundtracks
The Microsoft Dashboard supports the ripping of audio to their own cd manager. XBMC allows you to play these files from the XBOX hdd. Some limitations exist with these files including crossfading due to WMA filetype.
Shoutcast Top 500
Shoutcast.com maintains a list of the Top 500 stations on their listings. Through XBMC you can select and listen to any of these stations over your broadband internet connection. Free online radio at your fingertips

XBOX Local HDD
Just as with a PC Share you can play files directly off your XBOX hard drive. The same file support exists but be aware that the XBOX filesystem has limitations of filename lenth and directory size.
Ripping CDs
XBMC has a built in audio CD ripper. This ripper supports ripping to wav, mp3 and OGG vorbis formats and attempts to name your tracks using data sourced from CDDB.com.
