The Pivos XIOS (full name Pivos XIOS DS Media Play, or Sir Honorable Dr. Pivos XIOS DS Media Play the 5th of Wales) is an ARM set-top-box that can run XBMC on either Android or Linux. The Pivos XIOS is the original development target for the XBMC for Android port. The XIOS performs at or above the level of a jailbroken ATV2, but also comes with USB ports, micro-SD card, and doesn't need to be jailbroken. Build quality and support is above the average ARM box.
Installing XBMC
Linux
- Pivos's Official build: http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=941
- Unofficial Frodo builds: For M1 models • For M3 models
Note that "Official Builds" are Frodo 12.0 and that there is NO OFFICIAL (and apparently no stable) 12.3 version. Pivos has made no official XBMC release since May 2013.
Android

- Unofficial Frodo builds: http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2967
Note that "Official Builds" are Frodo 12.0 and that there is NO OFFICIAL (and apparently no stable) 12.3 version. Pivos has made no official XBMC release since May 2013. XBMC for Android will run on Pivos but will not have hardware acceleration, which limits you to Standard Definition only.
Performance tips
To get the most out of XBMC on the Pivos XIOS, you'll want to do the following:
- Run the linux Firmware (see #Installing XBMC for links).
- Format a fast micro SD card with a folder on it that says "xbmc-data", so that your userdata is stored there. Not only will this give you more space, but even SD cards are faster than the internal memory chip in the Pivos
- other stuff to be listed soon
Remote control
Note: For a slightly improved keymap layout for the Pivos remote, see Alternative keymaps for Pivos XIOS remote.
- Global
- Contextual menu
- Power/sleep
- Directional pad: Up, Down, Right, Left
- Select/Play
- Volume (on side)
- Back
- Info on linux. Some kind of clock thing on Android.
- Playback
- Nothing
- Power/sleep
- Directional pad:
- Up: +10 minutes or next chapter
- Down: -10 minutes or previous chapter
- Right: +30 seconds
- Left: -30 seconds
- On-screen-display controls
- Volume (on side)
- Goes back into the video listing (won't stop playback, so you must return to fullscreen using the lefthand sidebar menu. See here for an alternative.)
- Video info
Random notes
Feel free to place various notes, tips, and links here. As this section of the wiki gets more organized, those notes will be properly sorted. Consider this like a dumping ground for when you're not sure where to put something.
