The Video Library, one of the XBMC databases, allows the organization of your video content by information associated with the video files themselves.
This information can be obtained in various different ways, like through Scrapers (ie. Movies, TV shows and Music Videos) and NFO files. Library view allows you to browse your video content by things such as; Genre, Title, Year, Actors and Directors.

When you are in the Movies section of XBMC you can select a movie and bring up the contextual menu (C on a keyboard) and select "Link to TV show". This will bring up a list of TV shows that are currently in your library. When you link a movie to a TV show it will make that movie show up in the TV show's library view. Multiple movies can be linked to a TV show, but a movie can only be linked to one show at a time.

How to separate the library (cartoons, documentaries, anime, etc) from normal listings
<section begin="separate library" />
A common question people have after setting up their library is how can they separate their library so not everything is just in one big section, and how to have that as an option on the home screen in XBMC.

How-tos
Assorted how-tos related to the video library:

XBMC can already filter and separate library items using a number of methods mentioned above, but here's a quick and easy way to get the results a lot of people are looking for:
<!-- This section is auto-generated based on the following criteria. It then lists the page name and the text in the "intro" section, if provided. -->
<dpl>
category = How-to
category = Video library
notcategory = Outdated
format  = ,%PAGE%
</dpl>

The trick is to use something like smart playlists or video library tags (or even those two together) and create a list for each special type (like anime) and create one for "general TV shows". Basically, "TV shows" becomes a smart playlist where it's all TV shows except for the ones with special playlists. Then grab a skin that lets you use custom home items, such as Transparency! or Hybrid, and set those as home buttons while hiding the original "TV shows" button.

Some skins even let you use custom video nodes (which are based on smart playlists) to automatically alter what is displayed on the home screen.

If you want to completely separate the library you can also use profiles, where each profile has their own XBMC library and settings.

The main Video Library settings can be accessed from the Library tab in Videos Settings. Those can be accessed either from the Settings menu from the home screen, or via the context menu as seen above.

icon Guide to Create, Modify and Re-build your Video Library
Kodi has the ability to create separate Movie, TV Show and Music Video libraries that can display your collections in an Artwork and information rich display. Follow these pages to step through the creation of your libraries.
icon Library Management
Now that you have your library setup and have become confident with using Kodi, you can start experimenting with modifying your library so it better suits your preferences.

This page will guide you to other wiki pages that are commonly used to modify the library.

icon Video Playback Controls
A guide that describes the player controls, how to access on-screen displays, adjust settings for video, audio, subtitles and more.
icon Index of Video articles

How-tos

Assorted how-tos related to the video library:

HOW-TO:Modify automatic watch and resume points
This page describes three advancedsettings.xml settings that can be used to modify when "watched" and "resume" marks are saved. These settings can also be used to prevent automatically saving watched and resume points. A watched point records if a video has been watched or not. A resume point records where in a video file playback has stopped, so it can be resumed later.
HOW-TO:Modify dirty regions
Dirty regions is an advanced setting and interface rendering method that can help speed up the GUI in Kodi and decrease the demand on your CPU and GPU. Dirty regions has no effect during video playback unless there are GUI elements (on screen buttons) visible. Using dirty regions requires Kodi v11 (Eden) or higher.
HOW-TO:Modify the video cache
This page describes three advancedsettings.xml settings that can be used to maximize the video playback cache. You can use all or just a couple of these settings to see significant improvements in cache performance, should you require it (most users will not require these modifications). This can help with intermittent network issues, buffering, reduce how long the network is tied up, and sometimes improve battery life.
HOW-TO:Modify time seeking
This page describes various advancedsettings.xml settings that can be used to modify the default seek "steps" in Kodi, commonly mapped to the directional keys during playback (left, right, up, down). By default, up/down is "BigStepForward/Back" +/- 10 minutes, and left/right is "StepForward/Back" +/- 30 seconds. There is also "SmallStepBack", which is -7 seconds. All of these options can be modified.
HOW-TO:Set up subtitle services
As per Kodi v13 "Gotham", subtitles support is now built into Kodi. And instead of downloading a full subtitle download add-on, you now install one (or more) specific subtitle services.
Video file tagging
Kodi v18 Leia introduces support for embedded video tags using *.mkv and *.mp4 video files. *.avi support is available since v18.x. They are similar in principle to the tags saved in audio files. Only limited support for video tags is available at this time.
