XBMC supports both subtitles that are embedded in the video being watched (as is the case when watching DVDs) and also as standalone files. You can configure the way that they are displayed though the Subtitles Settings. You can also adjust where they are displayed onscreen through the Video Calibration Screen.

Using Embedded Subtitles

You can easily select and view embedded subtitles by enabling them in the On Screen Display.

Using Standalone Subtitles

XBMC also supports the use of standalone .srt format subtitles. In order to use them, simply rename the subtitle file to match that of the video ie:

  • Blues Brothers.avi
  • Blues Brothers.srt

Then, ensuring that both files are located in the same folder, play the video and XBMC should automatically recognize and use the subtitles.
