By using certain naming extensions and enabling this setting, you can enable "file stacking" for split video files. File stacking allows multiple video files to appear and play as if it were one movie file. This also allows VIDEO_TS files from DVD rips to act as a single video when playing them in file view, as if it were an ISO.

Time.png THIS PAGE IS OUTDATED:

This page refers to settings that were available in v16 and prior using the Confluence skin. Settings pages for v17 and later can be accessed from the main Settings page here... Settings

Settings for the video features are found here. Manage your video library, set video playback options, change video listing options, set subtitle fonts, etc.

  1. It removes all current info for that entry from the database.
  2. Inserts the info for that entry from the XML file.

Playback

Settings.videos.player.png
additional settings shown when scrolling down
Setting Description Setting level
Preferred Audio Language Sets the default audio track when different language tracks are available.
Play next video automatically When selected this enables automatic playback of the next file in the list
Adjust display refresh rate to match video Defines when the refresh rate adjustments should take place.

Activate to automatically set the refresh rate which is best matched with the video that is playing (default off). This potentially allows for perfectly smooth video reproduction, as video material can be recorded in a variety of frame rates (23.976fps, 24fps, 25fps, 29.97fps, 30 fps, etc.) which need to be properly matched by the refresh rate of the display, in order to be displayed smoothly. The resolution will also match the video resolution if it is higher than the default setting and the display is capable of it[1]

Pause during refresh rate change Inserts a pause for the computer to adjust refresh rate. Sometimes needed to prevent things like slight stuttering when a video starts. Range 0.1 milliseconds to 20 seconds. (default off)
Sync playback to display This setting enables syncing the video to the refresh rate of the monitor. Editor note: A good further explanation of what this does and how it relates to the above settings is given here. We should find a spot to include this directly on the wiki as well.
A/V sync method Options: Audio Clock, Video Clock(resample audio) or Video Clock(Drop/Dupe Audio)

Audio has to stay in sync, this can either be done by resampling, skipping/duplicating packets, or adjusting the clock if it gets out of sync too far. Resampling has the advantage that the speed of the video can be changed considerably, so 24 fps can be sped up to 25 fps to play at PAL speed. The disadvantage of resampling is that it doesn't work with passthrough, and there is a slight loss of audio quality. Skipping/duplicating audiopackets has no loss of audio quality, but the speed of the video can only be changed a little to avoid doing a skip/duplication too often, most of the time it's inaudible, but it can produce a very audible click. Adjusting the clock has the best audio quality, but some extra video jitter can occur, also the speed of the video can't change much, as the audio will sync the clock more often the more the speed of the video is changed.

Allowed error in aspect ratio to minimize black bars Allow video player to try to fit video to screen by ignoring aspect ratio by a certain amount.
Display 4:3 videos as Determines the zoom level that 4:3 videos are shown on widescreen displays.
Activate Teletext Enables Teletext when watching a live TV stream.
Scale Teletext to 4:3 When selected scales Teletext to 4:3 ratio.
Playback mode of stereoscopic videos
Disable stereoscopic mode when playback is stopped

Additional settings can be accessed from the OSD overlay while video is playing back.

Acceleration

Setting Description Setting level
Render Method Controls the method used by the player to process and display the video, (which is called rendering).
-Enable HQ scalers for scaling above
Decoding method

File lists

Settings.videos.file lists.png
Setting Description Setting level
Default select action Lets you toggle between Choose, Play, Resume and Show information. Choose, will select item, eg open a directory in files mode On resume Kodi will automatically resume videos from the last position that you were viewing them, even after restarting the system. Default is Play.
Extract thumbnail and video information When enabled, Kodi will extract thumbnails from videos that have no thumb in the library and information such as codecs and aspect ratio to display in Library Mode.
Replace names with library titles When a file is scanned into the library it will display the metadata title instead of the file name.
Combine split video items

By using certain naming extensions and enabling this setting, you can enable "file stacking" for split video files. File stacking allows multiple video files to appear and play as if it were one movie file. This also allows VIDEO_TS files from DVD rips to act as a single video when playing them in file view, as if it were an ISO.

Subtitles

Lets you change how Kodi renders subtitles, not including DVD (bitmap) subtitles.
