HDHomeRun on Kodi the easy way. Automatically finds all the compatible HDHomeRun devices on your network, collects available channels, and starts showing TV. Pressing select or right brings up the episode guide, where you can see what's on, and what's coming next.

Installing

This add-on is installed from the Add-on browser located in Kodi as follows:

  1. Settings
  2. Add-ons
  3. Install from repository
  4. Video Add-ons
  5. HDHomeRun
  6. Install

What is HDHomeRun

HDHomeRun is made by SiliconDust and is a stand-alone networked TV/HDTV tuner box. The HDHomeRun can either connect with over the air TV signals or with cablecard, and then stream the channels over a network to supported clients, such as Kodi.

Supported models

Note: Be sure to install the latest beta firmware for your HDHomeRun unit to enable all of the features of the add-on: https://www.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2484

  • HDHomeRun PRIME
  • HDHomeRun CONNECT
  • HDHomeRun EXTEND

Controls

Channel changing - Using up/down arrow keys and enter/select will allow the user to select which channel they want and then go to that channel.

Search - a search box can be triggered by pressing MENU on a remote or C on a keyboard. This will bring up the on-screen-keyboard and allow the user to search both channel names and program descriptions. The search results show up as filtered channel listings.

Direct channel input - Pressing numbers on a remote or keyboard + enter/select will allow the user to go directly to that channel number.

Tablet Controls - Because this add-on doesn't include the traditional GUI, when using with a tablet, exiting the add-on requires a two-finger swipe to the left.

FAQ

Do I need to provide EPG data?

Nope. SiliconDust pays for providing the EPG (electronic programming guide), channel icons, and other data from FYI Television. [1] This data is downloaded directly onto your HDHomeRun unit and the add-on loads that data from there.

How do I enable deinterlacing?

Because the HDHomeRun Live TV add-on blocks the normal on-screen-display video controls, enabling deinterlacing is a little tricky to get to at this time. This is currently being investigated by the add-on's developer.
A work-around for the time being is to enable automatic detection for if videos need deinterlacing or not, and setting that as the default for all videos. For most Kodi hardware this setting should be safe, but might not always enable deinterlacing in certain situations. This can be reverted later using these same instructions:
  1. Play a normal video file, outside of the HDHomeRun Live TV add-on.
  2. Bring up the on-screen-display controls by pressing select/enter.
  3. Navigate to the video settings button
  4. Change the Deinterlace video option to Auto
  5. Scroll down in the video settings window and select Save as default for all videos
  6. You can now stop playing the video and use the HDHomeRun Live TV add-on

Can the add-on record video?

Currently, no. The add-on is just for viewing live TV.
