Supplemental tools for Kodi running on various linux-based OSes.

1 File servers

Samba
Samba the Linux and Unix implementation SMB/CIFS (aka, Windows File Sharing). If it is not included in a given OS distro, it can be installed easily to share files to Kodi (among other uses). Samba/SMB is often a good choice due to it being highly compatible with other computers, regardless of the OS.
Webmin
Webmin is a web based interface for linux computers that allows the user to configure and set up just about anything. Users can manage files, configure file sharing, edit configuration files, access logs, install software, access a web-based terminal for commands, and a lot more. It also makes for an easy alternative (in addition to being covenant) to setting up various things in linux for users who are new to it. A must have for any linux HTPC or server.

2 File transfer and manager tools

CouchPotato
Free download manager/searcher/renamer for NZB and torrents.
FileZilla
A free multi protocol file transfer application often used to access files on Kodi devices that don't have a normal desktop interface (such as the ATV1, ATV2, Raspberry Pi, some Linux-based solutions, etc). Typically using SFTP as the main means of connecting to these devices.

Free auto-search/download manager for music files via NZB.
Htpc Manager
Htpc Manager is a free, open source, and cross-platform application for managing various functions of HTPCs. Features include Kodi control, Kodi playlist creation, Sickbeard management, Sabnzbd downloading, and more.
Sick Beard
Free application that searches/manages downloads, renames and organizes files, acts as a general media manager, and can integrate with Kodi easily. Sick Beard is written in Python, which means it can run on any platform that can run Python.

3 Library managers

MediaElch
MediaElch is a free MediaManager for movies and tv shows. It supports generating of nfo files and also directly manipulating XBMCs database (SQLite). Posters, thumbnails, screenshots and actor images will be stored along movies and tv shows (when using nfos) or directly in XMBCs thumbnail folder. Built with Qt MediaElch is available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

TinyMediaManager
tinyMediaManager is a media management tool for movies, moviesets and TV shows, which is written in Java/Swing. It supports importing and exporting of NFO files, downloading of artwork and renaming of media files (along with the corresponding NFOs and artwork). Due to the fact that it is written in Java, tinyMediaManager will run on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX (and possible more OS).

4 Music tools

Bliss
Bliss is a paid tool (free for the first 100 fixes) to find album artwork and add them to music files.
Clementine
Clementine is a free cross platform music player and library organizer.
Headphones
Free auto-search/download manager for music files via NZB.
Puddletag
puddletag is an audio tag editor (primarily created) for GNU/Linux similar to the Windows program, Mp3tag. Unlike most taggers for GNU/Linux, it uses a spreadsheet-like layout so that all the tags you want to edit by hand are visible and easily editable.

5 Remotes

Htpc Manager
Htpc Manager is a free, open source, and cross-platform application for managing various functions of HTPCs. Features include Kodi control, Kodi playlist creation, Sickbeard management, Sabnzbd downloading, and more.
LIRC
LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) is an open source package that allows users to receive and send infrared signals with a Linux-based computer system.
Xbev
xbev is a simple eventclient for XBMC, written in Python, it creates a window on the desktop using gtk and sends any keypresses received on that window to XBMC's eventserver.

6 Rename tools

FileBot
Tool for renaming media files so they are better scanned by Kodi scrapers (among other uses). Launched via Java Web Start, so no manual download or installation required.

HandBrake is a free, open source, cross-platform encoding and ripping tool for DVDs and other files. It comes with several easy to use presets and supports numerous features and options.
MakeMKV
MakeMKV is a free, cross-platform, DVD and Bluray ripping and MKV manipulating tool.

8 Other

Linux-Script List Of All Effective Scrapers
This script queries XBMC's (movie-)database and generates a simple list showing the effectively used scraper for every path entry, even if this entry has no scraper definition by its own.
Linux-Script To Find Not Scraped Movies
This script offers linux users a convenient way to check which media items were not yet added to the library. It scans the library (video only at the moment), creates lists with a) the paths that are used by XBMC, b) all files that are already added to the library and c) a list of existing movie files in the given directories. The lists b) and c) get compared and the difference between them is the list of files that are not in the library. More or less.
MKVToolNix
MKVToolNix is a free, open source, cross platform suite of tools for MKV files. Tools include mkvmerge, mkvinfo, mkvextract, mkvpropedit, and mmg.
MediaInfo
An open source, cross platform tool for getting full codec info from media files.
MythicalLibrarian
mythicalLibrarian will convert your MythTV recordings into a Video library, free of commercials, automatically after recording. You can see an example to the right.
Texture Cache Maintenance utility
Texture Cache Maintenance utility is a python script created by MillhouseVH, that can do a number of artwork related maintenance on the Kodi library. The script can be used to pre-generate thumbnails, clean up old thumbnail files, find corrupted files, and much more. The script can work on any OS that can run Python 2.6 or higher.
