Kodi Foundation products are for the users and created by the users. There are no highly paid developers or poorly paid support personnel on the phones ready to take your call. There are only users who have seen a problem and done their best to fix it. This means the Kodi Foundation will always need the contributions of users like you. This page will inform you about different ways you can get involved and give back to the project.

Ways to contribute

Helping users

Our support process relies on enthusiastic contributors like you to help others get the most out of Kodi Foundation products. The #1 priority is always answering questions on our support forums. Every day, new people will discover a Kodi Foundation product, and every day they are virtually guaranteed to have questions about using it. If you are knowledgeable in a certain area in one of our products, or simply want to try help others, we highly encourage you to field questions in the forums.

Quality assurance

Quality Assurance testing is one of the easiest ways to get started with one of our products and is a great way to get familiar with our code and tools. You can find more information on our quality assurance testing wiki page.

Coding

Developers can help the Kodi Foundation by adding new features, making our software more efficient, or documenting the internal structures to make development easier for others. Our code base consist of a variety of coding languages but the core is written in C++, while our add-ons consist of mainly Python and XML.

Localization

Get involved with the Kodi Foundation by making Kodi, its add-ons and other projects available in your language. Our Languages & Translations wiki pages have more detailed information on how to get started.

Add-ons

Add-ons are what make Kodi the most extensible and customizable entertainment center available. Get started building an add-on, and learn more about the different ways you can contribute.

Visual design

We want to make it possible for artists to cover the web and people with designs inspired by the Kodi Foundation. Check out the Creative team blog for more information about how to take part.

Documentation and writing

The Kodi Foundation wiki pages are the hub for information about the organization and its technologies. Help make our documentation better by writing new content, correcting/updating existing material or translating content into new languages.

Donations

We are always happy to receive a donation. Donations are typically used for travel to attend conferences, any necessary paperwork and legal fees, and the yearly Kodi Foundation Developers Conference, where a great deal of planning and coding for the following year occurs. Donations may also be used to purchase necessary hardware and licenses for developers, along with t-shirts, stickers, and other accessories for conferences.
